Important considerations when upgrading

  1. Before executing the Pulse installer, it is recommended to stop the Pulse services manually.

  2. If your Pulse server is v6.6.0 on Windows (Pulse Monitor should be v2.2.0), then you don't need to upgrade the Pulse Monitor. It is recommended to upgrade to the latest Pulse Monitor (now at v2.2.1) for Linux. Significant optimizations have been added to the Pulse Monitor in v6.6.0. If your Pulse version is lower than v6.6.0 then after upgrading the Pulse Application Server, you should upgrade the Pulse Monitor on each TM1 server (Customers on IBM Cloud are not impacted).

  3. It is recommended to Back-up Pulse.

  4. The conf\server.xml file is overwritten by the Pulse installer by default. You can now untick the option to overwritte this file. If you do not untick this option, you will be able to find your changes in the conf\server.xml.backup file.

  5. After upgrading Pulse to v7.0.0 from v6.4.0 or earlier version, a restart of Pulse will be required to include the new dashboards and features of Opensearch. After installing Pulse and Pulse is running, you will need to restart Pulse again to allow Pulse Opensearch to be fully operational.

Summary

Pulse 7.3.0 introduces enhanced migration capabilities, improved administration and security features, and better monitoring and reporting tools. This release focuses on increasing reliability, performance, and usability across migrations, package management, and system insights.

New Features (5)

Live Migration of Views

It is now possible to migrate live views. When creating a new Manual package, select the option Include Views, then select the cube you want to migrate. On the next screen, you can then choose the public views you want to migrate.

Rule Validation During Migration

When migrating rules, Pulse now validates the business rule before deploying it to the target instance to ensure correctness.

Centralized TM1 Credentials Management

A new Credentials page has been added under Administration to centralize TM1 credentials. You can enter and save TM1 credentials, then deploy them to multiple TM1 instances.

Blocking Threads Tracking

Pulse Explorer now includes a new index pulse-tm1-blocked-threads that makes it easier to identify which threads are blocking others. A new default dashboard Pulse - Blocked Thread Analysis is now available to support this analysis.

6 New Explorer Dashboards

Pulse Explorer now ships with 6 additional default dashboards, bringing the total from 17 to 24 (including the Blocked Threads Analysis dashboard above).

  • Pulse - TM1 Model Analysis — Analyses TM1 model structure, memory breakdown by component, rule complexity, process code quality, and object change history.

  • Pulse - Process Execution Analysis — Tracks chore and process success/failure rates, execution chains, and user-triggered processes.

  • Pulse - User Accounts & Licensing — Shows TM1 user account lifecycle, stale account detection, and admin audit.

  • Pulse - Alert Analysis — Provides alert severity breakdown, TM1 logger analysis, and email notification audit.

  • Pulse - Thread State & Transaction Analysis — Visualises thread state distribution over time, commit/rollback performance, and thread capacity utilisation.

  • Pulse - User Connection Details — Shows where users connect from, which workbooks they use, and connection patterns by time of day.
