Configuring Users to Log In with CAM Credentials

This article explains how to create Pulse users who authenticate using CAM (Cognos Access Manager) / Active Directory credentials instead of a Pulse-native password.

Prerequisites

Before following these steps, ensure that Pulse has been configured for CAM security. See Authentication Using CAM / Active Directory for the full configuration guide.

Steps

  1. Log in to Pulse as a user with Administrator rights.

  2. Go to Administration → Users.

  3. Click the New button to create a new user.

  4. In the CAM Namespace field, enter the correct namespace for the user's CAM/Active Directory environment.

  5. Fill in the remaining user details:

    • User Name — Must match exactly the username detected by IBM Cognos and used by CAM Security. For example, if Cognos is configured with Active Directory, this should be the Windows username (e.g. ecarmona).

    • Password — The password field will be disabled and is not required when CAM authentication is configured.

  6. Click Save.

The user can now log in to Pulse using their CAM or Active Directory credentials. When they log in, Pulse retrieves the CAM Namespace from their user profile automatically.

Note: The Pulse username must match the username as Cognos/CAM identifies it — not necessarily the display name or email address.
