5 Hidden Features in Pulse That Will Change Your Workflow

5 Hidden Features in Pulse That Will Change Your Workflow

Pulse contains several powerful features that are often underutilised. Here are five capabilities that can significantly improve your day-to-day TM1 administration.

1. Search Across All TM1 Objects

The Search box in the top-right corner of Pulse is available from anywhere in the application. It searches across all documented TM1 objects and is particularly useful for:

  • Finding all references to a specific element across rules and TI processes

  • Identifying which processes reference a particular attribute

  • Quickly locating any object by name or content

2. Find All Rules Connections

Pulse provides multiple ways to analyse rules connections in your model:

  • Flow Diagram — Lines between cubes indicate they are connected via rules

  • Model Spotlight — The Relationships panel on the right shows rules connections (blue = cube/rules, green = TI connections)

  • Technical Documentation — Run with the "Include rules information" option checked to see full rule stats and code snippets for each cube connection, broken down by the Relationships section per cube

3. Monitor TM1 Web Activity

Pulse can monitor activity in TM1 Web, Excel, and Canvas. To enable TM1 Web logging:

  • Co-hosted setup — Go to Administration → Configuration and turn on Insert Web Logging Script

  • Separate server — Configure Pulse to point to the TM1 Web location (setup steps vary by TM1/PA version)

For full step-by-step instructions, see Enable TM1 Web Logging to Pulse.

Once enabled, you can see which web sheets are open, who is using them, and for how long.

4. Run the License Optimisation Report

Pulse tracks exactly who is using TM1, when, how often, and what type of user they are (Admin, Write, or Read-Only). The License Optimisation Report is available in the Pulse Thick Client and provides the data you need to make informed decisions about your IBM licensing requirements.

5. Schedule the System Summary Report

The System Summary Report consolidates key health metrics — user sessions, wait times, and alerts — into a single PDF report. Schedule it to run automatically (for example, weekly with the last 7 days of data) so you always have an up-to-date view of your TM1 environment's health without manual effort.
